With the cost of energy rising so much we are finding that many of our customers in the Worcestershire and Gloucestershire area are interested to know more about the energy saving qualities of the double glazed units we sell.
Double glazed windows are two pieces of glass with a gap between them which creates an insulating barrier to keep the heat in your home. This gap can be filled with different gases such as Argon to improve the insulation properties of the window. The bar which separates the two panes of glass is known as a spacer bar and again these can have an impact on the efficiency of the window. A high efficiency window will use a type known as a "warm edge" spacer.
A scheme run by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) gives windows a grading of 'A' to 'G' similar to the way that appliances such as fridges are graded. The frame and the glass is assessed to establish the overall rating. Replacement windows should be a minimum of 'C' rating with more efficient windows coming in with an 'A' rating
